Rise in number of women researchers

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) released data showing increased women’s participation in scientific and technological fields in the last two decades.

It has increased from 13.9 in 2015 to 18.7 in 2018.

In 2018-19, around 28% of women participated in extramural R&D projects compared to 13% in 2000-01.

There is a rise in almost all the fields, but a prominent rise of women researchers is seen in social sciences and humanities. The male-to-female ratio in the research fields has also improved over the years.
