Globally ranked course: Mineral and Mining engineering

Three Indian institutions made it to the top of the QS World University Rankings by Subject for Mineral & Mining Engineering. The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad [abbreviated as IIT (ISM) is ranked 26th, the second highest-ranked university. Two other public Institutes of Eminence (IoEs) also made it to the top 50, IIT Kharagpur securing 37th rank and IIT Bombay at 39th position.

QS World University Rankings is one of the most prestigious international rankings, comparing the popularity and performance of institutions all over the world. Every year, the QS Rankings publish a list of universities based on surveys, diversity, and other factors.

Mineral and Mining Engineering, although being a traditional discipline, has managed to outperform the contemporary branches of Computer Science and Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

As the world moves toward reducing the global carbon footprint, concerns may arise as to its impact on students of Mineral and Mining Engineering. “With more and more institutions around the world embedding SDG-literacy into their curriculum, students who have grown up with climate literacy and been permeated by a greater level of environmental self-awareness will change traditional subjects such as Mining from the inside,” says MacFarlane, senior research manager, QS.
