Many Colors of Hydrogen Power

India made some ambitious commitments at the COP26. Switching to renewables for 50% of the country’s energy requirements by 2030 and NET Zero by 2070 are the notable one’s.

Hydrogen fuel could serve as an answer. The potential of Hydrogen as a green fuel is well recognized. According to the World Economic Forum, 1 KG of Hydrogen can release 3X the amount of energy released by combustion of gasoline. Known methods for producing Hydrogen energy are classified as Grey, Blue Green based on the amount of CO2 released during the production.

With the aim to make India a hub for Hydrogen energy, India announced the National Hydrogen Mission on the occasion of it’s 74th Independence day. At Least 14 Research Development & Demonstration (RD&D) projects are underway at several premier Institutions such as IIT’s , IISc CSIR etc.
